Bordeaux
As I write we have recently released our en primeur offer for the 2010 vintage from Bordeaux. It is quite clear that the pricing gap between ‘drinking’ claret and the top names has become a massive gulf, exacerbated by real or perceived demand from the Far East. From my perspective, this emphasises the great drinkability and value for money of châteaux that we offer on a regular basis.

Heading this selection must be Château Paveil de Luze from Margaux, whose owner Frédéric de Luze is now president of the Alliance des Crus Bourgeois du Médoc. I write this following a dinner where the developing 2006 was the star of the show, while we will soon offer the 2007 and 2008 vintage for future refined pleasure. In recent years the price of Paveil de Luze has increased, but this reflects massive investment in the vineyard and chais – I challenge anyone to name a Margaux cru bourgeois that offers better value.

From the Right Bank, we are proud to list elegant, polished Merlot-based wines from Château St Christophe in Saint-Emilion (especially their recently released 2003 Grand Cru) and the Montagne and Saint-Georges Saint-Emilion wines of Château la Bergère.

Meanwhile our petit château regulars, Château Rivalerie (Premières Côtes de Blaye) and Château de Seguin (Bordeaux Supérieur) always provide serious enjoyment at sensible prices.

We also list a tempting range of wines bought either as en primeur or as special parcels. Of these I particularly draw your attention to the 2004 Château Charmail and 2004 Château Lilian Ladouys, both serious offerings and excellent value.
